So, if you have not seen, my family photo of us breastfeeding has gone viral on Facebook. I am so overwhelmed by all the love I have been receiving from everyone! Trying to take the haters in stride, I honestly expected it, but the personal attacks on our looks still bother me a bit. I have also had my photo removed my Facebook from the upload I did to the Unlatched page which is absolutely ludicrous! Facebook has said many times you are allowed to post breastfeeding photos and it is not following it's own rules, gr!! I decided to share with you another picture taken from the photoshoot that I love, it is just me and Happy Baby nursing.
A lot of people have been asking about going gluten free so here is the story of how I went gluten free and how Happy Baby went gluten free.
A couple of months after Wifey and I got married I started having this pain that doctors said sounded like an ulcer but it wasn’t. I ended up going to a naturopath and they cut a bunch of stuff out of my diet, including wheat. It SUCKED so badly! I’m a very picky person to begin with and very lactose intolerant, now I had this very restrictive diet. Wifey is so awesome though and was able to make meals I could eat. I slowly started adding food back in and discovered some random food I can’t eat, for example potatoes, carrots, and... wheat.
Being wheat free was really hard for me. I used to eat stoned wheat thin crackers all the time, I still haven’t been able to find a good substitute! I love my take out too, especially McDonalds, I have never really eaten healthy *eep*. So I was mostly wheat free but I would cheat a lot. A Tim Horton’s donut here, a Subway sandwich there, what was the harm? Then I got pregnant and cheated a lot! I am not a celiac btw, I think the term would be intolerant, I get extremely painful gas, heartburn, acid reflux, and a sharp pain in my upper abdomen, especially if I eat a lot of wheat or wheat for a couple days in a row.
After having Happy Baby I continued to cheat with wheat. We soon found that Happy Baby had bouts of colic i.e. she would be colicky for two days then be fine for two days. After a couple weeks we realized that her colic matched up to when I cheated with wheat. It was like the miracle cure! All of a sudden she was a happy baby with no screaming in pain with gas and reflux! I have officially been wheat free with no cheating for a year now, it is hard, and I would love to be able to cheat again BUT it is worth it for my daughter. I plan on allowing Happy Baby to decide when she is done with breastfeeding so I have a feeling I’m going to be gluten free for a lot longer.
Wifey on the other hand has some kind of intolerance with some gluten free foods. For example when she eats Udi’s bread she gets painful gas. We have a theory that it is the tapioca starch so hopefully in the next couple of days we are going to attempt to make our own gluten free bread that Wifey will be able to eat. The reason for wanting Wifey to be gluten free is not only so we are not making two meals but also so Wifey could breastfeed Happy Baby.
Wifey has been gluten free for just over a day now and we have already noticed a huge change in Lil Bub! He has had calm moments! It is so exciting! Wifey is thinking of trying to nurse Happy Baby for the first time today, I will let you know how it goes.
